E-safety

In the current climate of our society, many things revolve around the use of the internet. The internet is a wonderful tool, when used appropriately, however the internet can also be a dangerous place. Teaching the children, not only how to use the internet appropriately, but how to stay safe whilst using the internet is becoming even more important.

At Home

The teaching of e-safety is taught to be able to use in school, but also to be applied outside of school. A lot of the e-safety teaching refers to use of technology outside of school, using their own personal devices. Due to the nature of e-safety, it is important that as a school we share any knowledge with the wider school community.

As a parent, having your child use the internet may seem daunting but there are plenty of resources out there to support you and your child at home. To help engage with your child regarding their internet use, here are some conversations starters ideas from

• Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
• Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
• Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
• Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
• Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online.
