Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
Our Year 5 teachers are Mrs. Radford, Mrs. Smith and Miss Bull, ably supported by our amazing teaching assistants Miss Webb and Mrs. Oldham.
Year 5 is an exciting and challenging year for the children, where as part of upper Key Stage 2, they are expected to take a more mature and independent approach to learning. They will be expected to work on their own initiative and work closely with their peers in a range of team situations both inside and outside of the classroom. They will also become more aware of the value of their education and continue to develop a love of learning that will stand them in good stead in the future.
The curriculum in Year 5 is packed with lots of exciting learning opportunities, with topics such as the Vikings to inspire the children in their learning. They will be encouraged to develop their sense of curiosity about a whole range of different subjects and books through a more enquiry-based approach to learning, giving them the skills that they need to investigate, question, draw conclusions and develop supported opinions. A love of reading and a desire to choose, read and talk about the exciting books that they have read will be encouraged all the way through the year.
We strongly encourage parents and carers to be involved in their children’s education and learning and are always glad to hear your comments. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the team if you have any issues or concerns and we will certainly do our best to resolve them. We very much value your support during the course of the year as we work together to help our Year 5 learners achieve their potential here at St. John’s.
